Barium Carbonate
Chemical Analysis:
Appearance: White amorphous Powder

Applications:
- In the pre-treatment of brine used in Chlor-Alkali industries. Brine used in Chlor-Alkali industries in India contains excess Sulphates and other Metallic Impurities when compared with world standards, necessitiating a high degree of purification prior to electrolysis to avoid damaging of the cell. Treatment of the brine with Barium Carbonate removes Sulphates as insoluble Barium Sulphate and Calcium and Magnesium Salts as their insoluble Carbonates.
- In the manufacture of the other Barium Compounds such as Barium Chloride, Barium Nitrate and Barium Sulphate.
- As a fluxing ingredient in enamels, glazes and ceramic bodies.
- In the oil-well drilling industry to stabilise the desired properties of the baryte suspension which is used as drilling mud.
- In the manufacture of photographic paper; to generate Barium Sulphate in the paper which imparts a flat white appearance.
- In the glass industry, formulae containing various percentages of Barium Oxide are used for several purposes. To obtain Barium Oxide of requried percentage, Barium Carbonate is added to the mix.
- In the ferrous metallurgy, Barium Carbonate is used in some systems for steel carborizing.
